Jamal Musiala reveals neurological disorder after second Bayern Munich collapse
Bayern Munich midfielder Jamal Musiala has revealed he has been diagnosed with a neurological disorder after collapsing during a pre-season friendly for the second time in three days.
The 23-year-old Germany international fell to the ground shortly after being introduced as a late substitute in Bayern Munich’s match at Heidenheim on Tuesday.
Musiala appeared dazed while receiving treatment from medical staff and was helped from the pitch. The incident followed a similar collapse during Bayern Munich’s home victory over RB Leipzig on Saturday.
In a statement on social media, Musiala said he had been diagnosed with brief episodes that can result in “temporary but treatable seizures”.
“I have been diagnosed with brief, temporary episodes of absence that are easily treatable and are caused by a neurological dysfunction,” Musiala said.
“These can lead to the moments that have occurred recently, such as against Leipzig and now in Heidenheim.
“I know that they may seem scary at first glance but for me, they are currently simply part of my everyday life.”
Musiala also thanked supporters for their concern and said he was receiving specialist care.
“I am incredibly grateful for all your messages and your support.”
“I am receiving the best possible medical care in this regard, and I am very optimistic.”
Bayern Munich sporting director Max Eberl said after Tuesday’s match that Musiala would address the situation himself.
“Jamal will speak about this in the near future. We knew about it and we are aware of the situation,” Eberl said.
“Jamal will speak out.”
Musiala’s first collapse occurred on Saturday in hot conditions in the Bavarian capital, with temperatures rising well above 30C. He needed medical attention during Bayern Munich’s win over RB Leipzig.
The latest episode came only minutes after Musiala had entered the game at Heidenheim, raising further concern before he provided an explanation about his health.
The midfielder missed the first six months of last season after suffering a broken ankle at the Club World Cup. He returned during the second half of the campaign and went on to represent Germany at the 2026 World Cup.
Musiala has established himself as a key player for both Bayern Munich and Germany, but his recent appearances have now been overshadowed by the two incidents. He said the episodes were being treated and expressed optimism about his condition.
