Dokou Dodo makes Egypt move as El Mokawloon recruit Benin midfielder
Benin midfielder Dokou Dodo has swapped Portugal for Egypt after joining El Mokawloon on a free transfer from Leixoes.
The 22-year-old defensive midfielder completed the move on 18 August 2026 and has signed a contract with the Egyptian Premier League club until 30 June 2028.
Dodo arrives at El Mokawloon after one season with Leixoes, whom he joined from Egyptian side Smouha in August 2025. His move back to Egypt brings him into the Premier League after his spell in Portugal’s second tier.
The Cotonou-born player is a right-footed midfielder and stands 1.77m tall. He has been listed in the defensive midfield position throughout his recent career, providing El Mokawloon with a player whose primary role is in the centre of the pitch.
Dodo made the switch from Leixoes at the beginning of the 2026-27 season. He did not make an appearance in the club’s first two possible Liga Portugal 2 matches before completing his move to El Mokawloon.
His time at Leixoes followed a move from Smouha, where he had played after leaving Benin club Eternel FC in October 2022. That earlier transfer was completed for €24,000.
Dodo’s return to Egypt marks the next stage of a career that has taken him from Benin to the country’s top-flight football and then to Portugal. He now joins El Mokawloon under a deal that keeps him at the club through the end of June 2028.
The player’s recorded market value is €200,000, while the move from Leixoes was completed without a transfer fee. El Mokawloon have therefore secured the services of the Benin international for a free transfer as they add him to their squad for the 2026-27 campaign.
Dodo’s previous club, Leixoes, compete in Liga Portugal 2, while El Mokawloon play in Egypt’s Premier League. The transfer consequently represents a move between clubs in different national leagues and takes the midfielder back to a competition he knows from his time with Smouha.
Dokou Dodo has completed his free transfer from Leixoes to El Mokawloon, signing in Egypt until 30 June 2028.
