Rodri undergoes Barcelona medical ahead of four-year move from Manchester City

Rodri is undergoing a medical at Barcelona on Tuesday morning before completing his move to the Catalan club, according to Sky Sports.

The Spain midfielder arrived at Barcelona’s Joan Gamper Sports City training centre at 08:00 local time, Sky reports, with a large group of supporters gathering at the entrance to welcome him.

Rodri, whose full name is Rodrigo Hernandez, is expected to sign a four-year contract with Barcelona once the medical examinations have been completed. He arrived in Barcelona on Monday evening as preparations for his transfer moved closer to a conclusion.

Barcelona have reached an agreement with Manchester City for the midfielder, after the English club accepted the Spanish side’s latest offer. The move will see the player described as the best footballer at the 2026 World Cup join the Spanish league champions.

Barcelona had previously submitted two offers for Rodri. The first was worth 45m euros, while a second proposal reached 60m euros. Both bids were rejected by the Manchester City hierarchy.

The Catalan club then returned with a third offer worth more than 60m euros, which Manchester City agreed to accept.

Rodri is reported to have led Spain to victory at the 2026 World Cup after they defeated Argentina in the final. The Spain captain was also named the tournament’s best player, finishing ahead of Lionel Messi.

His performances at international level have further strengthened his reputation as one of the leading midfielders in world football. Rodri played a central role in Spain’s success at the World Cup and is now set to begin the next stage of his career with Barcelona.

The midfielder has also been an important figure during his time at Manchester City, where he has played since joining the club in 2019. Among the major honours he won with City are the UEFA Champions League and the English top-flight title.

Rodri made 298 appearances for Manchester City, scoring 28 goals and providing 32 assists.

His medical is the next formal step before the transfer can be completed and the four-year agreement signed. The presence of supporters at the training centre underlined the level of anticipation surrounding his arrival, with Barcelona now waiting for the final procedures to be concluded before officially securing the midfielder’s services.
