Christopher Nkunku open to RB Leipzig return

Christopher Nkunku could leave AC Milan within the next two weeks, with former club RB Leipzig reportedly leading the race to bring him back to Germany.

The Bundesliga side have already made contact with the attacker’s representatives as they explore a possible reunion.

According to Fabrizio Romano and Matteo Moretto, Leipzig approached Nkunku’s camp over the weekend to discuss a potential transfer. The 28-year-old is reportedly open to returning to the club where he enjoyed the most productive spell of his career.

Nkunku represented Leipzig between 2019 and 2023, registering 126 goal contributions in 172 competitive appearances. His performances earned him Germany’s Footballer of the Year award in 2022 and established him as one of Europe’s most exciting attacking players.

The France international joined Milan but endured an inconsistent campaign and has now been placed on the transfer list. Newcastle United and Borussia Dortmund have also been linked, although Dortmund recently added attacking midfielder Giannis Konstantelias to their squad.

Leipzig are simultaneously pursuing Cologne youngster Said El Mala, with reports suggesting they could prepare a €60 million offer. However, Nkunku’s familiarity with the club and willingness to return may make him an especially attractive option as Leipzig reshape their attack.
