Seny Dieng swaps Middlesbrough for Atromitos in Greek move
Senegalese goalkeeper Seny Dieng has joined Greek club Atromitos from Middlesbrough on a free transfer, bringing his time in England to an end and adding experience to the Super League 1 side’s squad.
The 31-year-old has agreed a contract with Atromitos running until 30 June 2027. Dieng, who was born in Zurich and also holds Swiss nationality, joins the Athens-based club after three years with Middlesbrough.
Dieng moved to Middlesbrough from Queens Park Rangers in July 2023 for €2.3m. He spent part of the 2025-26 season on loan at Sheffield Wednesday before returning to Middlesbrough on 6 March 2026.
His departure from the Championship club marks the latest step in a career that has included spells across England, Germany and Switzerland. Dieng joined QPR from MSV Duisburg on a free transfer in August 2016 and subsequently gained first-team experience through loan moves to Whitehawk, Hampton & Richmond Borough, Stevenage, Dundee and Doncaster.
He began his senior career in Switzerland with Grasshoppers, having previously played for GC Zurich Under-21 and FC Grenchen. The 1.93m right-footed goalkeeper has spent the majority of his professional career in the English game, with QPR and Middlesbrough representing his longest spells at one club.
Dieng is also a member of Senegal’s international set-up and was part of the team that won the Africa Cup of Nations in 2022. His international success adds major tournament experience to an Atromitos squad competing in Greece’s top division.
Atromitos have secured Dieng without a transfer fee, with the player’s move formally recorded on 17 August 2026. He leaves Middlesbrough after his contract there ended and begins a new chapter in Greece under an agreement that will keep him at Atromitos through the end of June 2027.
