Wolfsburg open to Mohamed Amoura departure

VfL Wolfsburg have reportedly made Mohamed Amine Amoura available for transfer this summer, with the Algeria international among the players expected to leave following the club’s relegation.

Amoura was absent again as Wolfsburg recorded a 1-0 away victory over Hannover on the second matchday of the Bundesliga 2 campaign. The forward remains unavailable as he continues his recovery from a thigh injury suffered while representing Algeria at the last World Cup.

The injury has prevented Amoura from returning to competitive action for Wolfsburg, but his situation at the German club is also being shaped by their drop into the second tier.

The Algerian is understood to be one of several important players whose futures have become uncertain following relegation. Dieter Hecking, who coached Wolfsburg last season, confirmed that the club is prepared to part with several members of the previous campaign’s starting group.

“Amoura is currently on the list of players for sale, along with several players who were important starters last season,” Hecking told the Braunschweiger Zeitung newspaper.

Hecking went further when discussing the Algeria international’s prospects of remaining at the club.

“Based on the information I have at the moment, Amoura will not be playing for our team next season.”

The comments provide a clear indication that Wolfsburg are prepared to consider offers for the striker despite his existing contract. Amoura is tied to the German club until June 2029, but his long-term agreement has not prevented Wolfsburg from considering a departure.

The 24-year-old has also attracted interest from elsewhere in Europe. Stuttgart have been linked with the Algerian in Germany, while Portuguese side Benfica are also reportedly monitoring his situation.

However, there is currently no official offer on the table. Interest from the clubs has yet to develop into formal negotiations capable of taking Amoura closer to a move away from Wolfsburg.

For now, his immediate situation remains complicated by his injury, which continues to keep him out of action. At the same time, Wolfsburg’s willingness to sell means his future is increasingly likely to become one of the stories to follow during the remainder of the transfer window.

With the club now competing in the second tier, Amoura could be heading for a new challenge if one of the interested sides decides to make a concrete proposal.
