Guglielmo Arena targets improved season with US Touarga

US Touarga head coach Guglielmo Arena is eyeing a calmer season following an impressive performance that saw them play in the relegation playoff last campaign.

According to the Swiss-Italian gaffer, US Touarga’s objectives have not changed, with the club committed to providing opportunities to as many academy graduates as possible while also aiming for improved results in the league.

“US Touarga’s ambitions remain unchanged from year to year, and the club’s main goal is to try and involve as many players as possible who have graduated from the Mohammed VI Football Academy,” Arena as quoted by Hesport.

“We are simply trying to do our best. This year, the club played in the relegation playoffs to avoid relegation, so we want a calmer season and a good finish in the league,” he added.

The coach’s comments underline the balance US Touarga are seeking between developing young players and competing effectively at senior level.

The club’s reliance on Mohammed VI Football Academy graduates is part of a broader philosophy aimed at giving promising Moroccan talents a pathway into professional football.

Arena believes the approach can continue to benefit both the club and the players, provided the team can combine youth development with improved performances.

Avoiding another relegation battle will therefore be one of the team’s key objectives, while maintaining opportunities for academy graduates remains equally important.

Arena brings considerable international experience to the project. Born in Montreux, Switzerland, on December 23, 1973, he began his coaching career around the start of the millennium and has since worked across several countries and continents.

His coaching experience includes spells with clubs and national teams in Africa, Asia and Europe. Among the teams he has worked with are Burkina Faso’s Armed Forces Sports Association, Tonnerre d’Abomey in Benin, CODM Meknes, Ittihad Khemisset, Algerian giants CR Belouizdad, Al-Oruba in the United Arab Emirates, Fanja in Oman, Dibba Al-Hisn, Dubai, Buildcon in Zambia, Rapide Oued Zem and Maghreb Fez.

He has also worked with the Laos under-23 national team.

With that experience behind him, Arena will now look to guide US Touarga towards a more stable campaign while continuing to give the country’s emerging talents an opportunity to establish themselves at senior level.

For US Touarga, success this season will not be measured solely by league position. Developing players, particularly those emerging from the Mohammed VI Football Academy, remains at the heart of the club’s identity.
