Alexandria to host African beach volleyball championships with Los Angeles 2028 place at stake
Alexandria will host the African Beach Volleyball Championships for men and women from 18 to 22 August, with the winners earning direct qualification for the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles.
A total of 46 teams representing 28 countries will compete in the tournament, which is regarded as a major opportunity for African beach volleyball players to secure their place on the sport’s biggest international stage.
The competition will feature 24 men’s teams and 22 women’s teams. The draw is scheduled to take place on Monday at 20:00.
Egypt will be among the countries taking part as Alexandria completes preparations for the event. The tournament is expected to attract strong interest because victory will bring automatic qualification for the Los Angeles Olympics in 2028.
The participating nations are Egypt, Morocco, Tunisia, Algeria, Mozambique, Togo, Benin, Ghana, Nigeria, Senegal, Burundi, Cape Verde, Guinea-Bissau, Niger, Cote d’Ivoire, Cameroon, Central African Republic, Kenya, Angola, Botswana, Mauritius, Comoros, Sierra Leone, Uganda, Lesotho, The Gambia, South Africa and Seychelles.
The championships will bring together teams from across Africa in both the men’s and women’s competitions, with the title serving as the key route to Olympic qualification for the continent.
Alexandria’s preparations have continued ahead of the five-day tournament, which is considered one of the leading events on the African beach volleyball calendar. The competing teams will be aiming to reach the podium, while also pursuing the opportunity to fulfil their ambition of competing at the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games.
