Pyramids FC to face Gor Mahia in CAF Champions League preliminary round on Sunday afternoon
Pyramids FC will begin their CAF Champions League campaign away to Kenyan side Gor Mahia on Sunday, 6 September, with kick-off scheduled for 15:00 local time.
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has informed Pyramids FC of the date for the first leg of their round-of-64 tie against Gor Mahia. The match will be played in the afternoon, with Pyramids FC travelling to Kenya for the opening game.
The first legs of the competition’s round of 64 are scheduled to take place between 4 and 6 September, while the return fixtures will be played between 11 and 13 September.
Pyramids FC’s second meeting with Gor Mahia will be held in Cairo between 11 and 13 September at the Air Defense Stadium. The exact date of the return leg has not yet been specified.
The round of 32 will then begin with its first legs between 16 and 18 October. Those ties will be completed with return matches between 23 and 25 October.
Mamelodi Sundowns, Esperance Sportive de Tunis and RS Berkane have already secured direct passage to the round of 32.
The winners of the CAF Champions League will receive prize money of $6m. Clubs eliminated in the preliminary round will be awarded $100,000.
Mamelodi Sundowns are the defending champions.
Key ties before the group stage
The main Champions League match-ups before the group stage include a number of two-leg preliminary contests, with the winners progressing to face the sides already advanced to the next round.
Zamalek will meet AS Port of Djibouti, while APR FC of Rwanda will play Aigle Congo. The winners of those two ties will meet.
Pyramids FC’s route continues alongside the tie between Heegan of Somalia and Merikh Bentiu of South Sudan. The winners of those contests will face each other in the next round.
Mamelodi Sundowns will play the winner of Wiliete SC of Angola and Foresters of Seychelles. Esperance Sportive de Tunis will face the winner of Al-Swehly of Libya and KVZ of Zanzibar.
RS Berkane will await the winner of Medina United of The Gambia and Star Sport of Sierra Leone.
Petro Atletico of Angola and Songo of Mozambique will contest one tie, while Scotland of Zimbabwe and Nsingizini of Eswatini will meet in the other, with the eventual winners paired together.
Mangasport of Gabon will play African Stars of Namibia, while Orlando Pirates of South Africa will face La Cure Waves of Mauritius. Those two ties form another route into the round of 32.
Equatorial Guinea’s 15 de Agosto will meet Volcan Club of the Comoros, and Simba of Tanzania will face Mighty Wanderers of Malawi.
Al-Hilal of Sudan will play Aigle Noir of Burundi, with Sidama Bunna of Ethiopia meeting Aiglons of Chad.
Al-Merrikh of Sudan will face Power Dynamos of Zambia, while Horoya of Guinea will take on JS Saoura of Algeria.
The remaining highlighted ties are Club Africain against Djoliba of Mali and Medeama of Ghana against TP Mazembe of the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
