Hamza Abdelkarim scores again as FC Barcelona’s Egyptian prospect continues to shine
Hamza Abdelkarim’s impressive start to life at FC Barcelona continued with a superb goal in the Catalan club’s 5-2 friendly victory over Basel.
The Egyptian forward, who joined FC Barcelona initially on loan from Al Ahly, has quickly attracted attention with a series of encouraging performances. His latest contribution adds to a growing body of evidence that the young striker is adapting well to his new surroundings and beginning to fulfil the potential he showed on the international stage.
Abdelkarim first made a name for himself during the 2025 Under-17 World Cup in Qatar. Representing Egypt’s Young Pharaohs, he scored twice in four matches, giving an early indication of his attacking ability and helping him emerge as one of the players to watch from the Egyptian side.
Following that tournament, he moved to FC Barcelona on an initial loan agreement from Al Ahly. The change of club did not appear to disrupt his progress. Abdelkarim soon made an impression with the Catalan junior team, producing performances strong enough to earn recognition at senior international level.
He was subsequently selected for Egypt’s squad for the 2026 World Cup. Abdelkarim featured in four of Egypt’s five matches as the team progressed to the last 16 of the competition. His involvement provided further experience at the highest level and underlined the confidence placed in him by both his country and his club.
FC Barcelona were sufficiently impressed by his progress to make the move permanent. The decision was also influenced by his outstanding display during pre-season, when he scored twice against Birmingham City.
Although he has not been an automatic starter in every match, Abdelkarim has already been given opportunities at the head of the attack. Each appearance has offered another chance for the young forward to demonstrate his qualities, and he has continued to respond with performances that suggest he can become an important part of the club’s plans.
His goal against Basel was the latest highlight. In a match in which FC Barcelona scored five times, Abdelkarim’s contribution stood out because of the quality of the finish as well as the confidence with which he continues to play.
The 5-2 result gave FC Barcelona another pre-season victory, while Abdelkarim’s display strengthened the sense that the Egyptian forward is making steady progress. After excelling for Egypt’s youth team, appearing at the 2026 World Cup and securing a permanent move from Al Ahly, he is now continuing to build his reputation in Barcelona colours.
At just the beginning of his time with the club, Abdelkarim has already provided several notable moments. His double against Birmingham City and his latest strike against Basel point to a player who is taking his opportunities and confirming the promise he showed before arriving in Catalonia.
