Malcom poised for Al-Diriyah move as Al-Hilal spell nears surprise end

Brazilian winger Malcom is close to leaving Al-Hilal and joining Al-Diriyah, with the move expected to be completed in the coming hours after a final agreement was reached between all parties.

The transfer would bring an unexpected end to Malcom’s time with Al-Hilal and represents one of the biggest surprises of the current summer transfer window. The player is reportedly preparing to undergo a medical before signing a contract with Al-Diriyah covering the next three sporting seasons.

The proposed move comes despite Malcom recently dismissing reports that he was considering leaving the Saudi club. Following Al-Hilal’s match against Al-Faisaly, the 29-year-old reacted angrily when a reporter asked him about speculation over his future.

“Are you crazy? I have an extended contract with the club, and please stop spreading rumours,” Malcom said at the time.

His comments appeared to confirm that he intended to remain with Al-Hilal, making the latest developments particularly unexpected. However, according to Saudi newspaper Asharq Al-Awsat, the negotiations have now reached a final stage and the player is set to complete the formalities of the transfer.

Malcom made what could be his final scoring contribution for Al-Hilal in their meeting with Al-Faisaly in the opening round of the Saudi Pro League. He scored during that match, leaving him with a final goal for the club before the anticipated next chapter of his career begins.

The Brazilian joined Al-Hilal and became an important part of the club’s attacking options. Across his spell in Saudi Arabia, he made 139 appearances in domestic and continental competitions, scoring 47 goals and providing 41 assists.

His departure would leave Al-Hilal without one of their most influential attacking players. Malcom played a role in the club’s success and helped them win a number of trophies during his time at the club.

For Al-Diriyah, meanwhile, the deal would be a major statement signing. The club, newly promoted to the Saudi Pro League, would be securing a player with significant experience at the highest level of domestic and continental football.

The transfer remains subject to the completion of Malcom’s medical and the signing of the formal contract. An official announcement confirming the move is expected in the coming period.
