Ferran Torres hails Luis Enrique’s influence after completing €50m Paris Saint-Germain move

Ferran Torres says reuniting with Luis Enrique has filled him with excitement after completing his move from Barcelona to Paris Saint-Germain for €50m.

The Spain forward has officially joined the French club during the current summer transfer window, becoming the fifth-most expensive sale in Barcelona’s history. Torres will now begin a new chapter at Paris Saint-Germain, having chosen what he described as an ambitious project at the Parc des Princes.

“I am very happy to start a new adventure with an ambitious club like Paris Saint-Germain,” Torres said in comments reported by Spanish newspaper Mundo Deportivo.

“I would like to thank president Nasser Al-Khelaifi, Luis Campos and coach Luis Enrique for giving me the opportunity to join this team. I hope I can help it win as many trophies as possible.”

Torres also reflected on the rapid return to club football after his side’s World Cup triumph, saying players had barely had time to process their success before preparations for the new season began.

“It is true that since winning the World Cup, everything has moved very quickly,” he said. “We have barely had any holidays to take it all in. But in football, everything happens at full speed and we already have to focus on the new season.”

The 25-year-old said he understood the demands that would come with joining Paris Saint-Germain and was determined to contribute both on and off the pitch.

“I am joining an ambitious team and I have to live up to expectations,” Torres added. “I need to help my team-mates as much as possible and also try to bring a lot of joy to these wonderful supporters.”

Asked about his relationship with Luis Enrique, Torres described the manager as “like a father in the football world”. He said the coach had consistently shown faith in him while working with the national team and that he hoped to repay that confidence through his performances and goals.

“When I had the opportunity to train with him in the national team, he always showed great faith in me,” Torres said. “Today, having the chance to train under him again fills me with enthusiasm and makes me very excited to take part in this project.”

Torres believes Luis Enrique has a particular ability to manage players and bring out their best qualities, even when they lack confidence in themselves.

“I think he is a coach who knows very well how to guide a player, understand him and trust him, even when the player does not fully believe in himself,” he said. “He knows how to motivate you to give your best. That is something very positive and, above all, he knows how to bring out all your potential.”

Torres ended by setting out his ambitions for his time in Paris: “I want to return to winning every trophy possible, make the Parisians happy, score many goals, provide many assists and, above all, continue this winning run.”
