Al Ahly reject Como bid for Egypt goalkeeper Mostafa Shobeir

Al Ahly have rejected an offer from Italian club Como for Egypt goalkeeper Mostafa Shobeir, with the proposal understood to have been worth close to $2m.

Shobeir, who is 26, is currently with the Al Ahly squad at their training camp in Spain as they prepare for the new season.

The goalkeeper’s contract with the Egyptian club expires at the end of next season. If he does not agree a new deal, he will be free to negotiate with other clubs from January without Al Ahly’s permission.

Reports previously claimed that Al Ahly had also turned down an offer from Danish club FC Nordsjælland for Shobeir after Egypt’s campaign at the World Cup ended.

An Al Ahly source previously told FilGoal: “We decided to settle the renewal of the contracts of the two international players Mostafa Shobeir and Imam Ashour before the start of the team’s training camp for the new season.”

Shobeir has made 70 appearances for Al Ahly, keeping 38 clean sheets and conceding 44 goals.

Al Ahly will begin the new season with Shobeir, Mohamed El Shenawy and Hamza Alaa as their goalkeeping options. Mohamed Seha has joined Egyptian Premier League side Al Masry on loan.

The summer registration period for the 2026-27 Egyptian Premier League season is due to close on Saturday, 15 August.

Como, meanwhile, will compete in the UEFA Champions League next season under manager Cesc Fabregas, marking the first time in the club’s history that they have reached the competition.

According to transfer reporter Fabrizio Romano, Shobeir has signed with CAA Base to manage his professional affairs. Romano said the goalkeeper is now a candidate to leave Al Ahly, with several clubs interested in signing him following his impressive performances at the World Cup.

CAA Base also represents Brazil manager Carlo Ancelotti, Chelsea players Cole Palmer and Moises Caicedo, and Tottenham Hotspur pair Richarlison and Pedro Porro, along with a number of other prominent names.

Shobeir helped Egypt reach the last 16 of the World Cup, where they were eliminated by Argentina after a 3-2 defeat.

He received particular praise for his performances during the tournament. In the group stage, he saved a penalty taken by Iran forward Mehdi Taremi before stopping another spot-kick from Argentina captain Lionel Messi in the last-16 match.

The latest bid from Como therefore comes as Al Ahly consider the future of a goalkeeper who remains under contract but has attracted increasing interest after his World Cup displays. The club have already signalled their intention to address his contract situation, but have rejected the Italian side’s offer for now.
