Nice consider move for Nathan Ngoumou as Borussia Monchengladbach weigh early exit
OGC Nice have opened discussions with Cameroon international Nathan Ngoumou as the winger’s future at Borussia Monchengladbach becomes increasingly uncertain.
Ngoumou, 26, has not played a single match for the German club this season after spending several months sidelined by a serious Achilles tendon injury. Although he returned to full fitness in March, he did not regain his competitive rhythm and was unable to feature before the end of the campaign.
With 12 months remaining on his contract, Borussia Monchengladbach are reportedly considering releasing the former Toulouse player early. That possibility has prompted interest from several clubs, with Nice understood to have moved quickly to assess whether a deal can be reached.
According to Foot Mercato, the French club have begun talks with Ngoumou. The potential move would offer the player an opportunity to revive his career in Ligue 1 after a difficult period away from first-team football.
Ngoumou came through the French system before establishing himself in Germany, where he has made 71 appearances in the top division. His experience at European level is viewed as an attractive quality by Nice, who are looking to strengthen their attacking options.
The Cameroon international is determined to make a fresh start after what has been described as a prolonged period in the wilderness. His profile is considered to fit Nice’s need for quality offensive reinforcements, although the club may have to act quickly if they want to secure his signature.
Nice are not the only side monitoring the situation. Anderlecht are also positioned to try to sign the winger, while AJ Auxerre have made enquiries in France. Africafoot previously reported exclusively on Auxerre’s interest.
Ngoumou, who was born in Toulouse, is valued at 3.5m euros. His annual salary is reported to be 1,040,000 euros, equivalent to 676,000,000 CFA francs.
The winger’s next move comes with the Ligue 1 season approaching. OGC Nice are due to begin their French league campaign against Lorient, with the match scheduled for the opening day.
According to betting company 1xBet, Nice are priced at 2.20 to win that fixture. A draw is listed at 3.40, while Lorient are priced at 3.10.
