Estrela Amadora sign Al Ahly forward Ziad Ayoub after loan spell
Portuguese club Estrela Amadora have completed the signing of young Al Ahly forward Ziad Ayoub during the current summer transfer window.
The club announced the move on its official website, introducing their new player with the message: “Welcome Ziad Ayoub.”
Ayoub spent last season at Estrela Amadora on loan, featuring for the club’s reserve team. His permanent move now continues the 18-year-old’s development in Portugal after he began his football career in the youth ranks of Egyptian giants Al Ahly.
The forward’s arrival also follows his involvement with Egypt’s 2008-born youth squad at last year’s Fifa Under-17 World Cup in Qatar. Ayoub was included in the squad and made two substitute appearances during the tournament.
He came on during Egypt’s opening match against Haiti, playing 11 minutes. Ayoub also featured for nine minutes in Egypt’s round-of-32 match against Switzerland, replacing Hamza Abdelkarim.
Ayoub is principally used as a striker and has now secured a longer-term place at Estrela Amadora after his season with the club’s reserve side.
Estrela Amadora began their Portuguese league campaign with a 2-2 draw against Sporting CP. The result came in their opening fixture of the season, with the club sharing four goals with the Lisbon side.
The move gives Ayoub the opportunity to continue his progress in Portuguese football after leaving the Al Ahly academy system. His previous season at Estrela Amadora came as a loan player, while the latest announcement confirms his return to the club as part of its senior set-up.
Ayoub was one of the players selected for Egypt’s 2008 youth generation at the Under-17 World Cup in Qatar. His appearances in the competition came from the bench, including his brief spell against Haiti and his later involvement against Switzerland in the knockout stage.
In the latter fixture, he replaced Hamza Abdelkarim for the closing stages of Egypt’s round-of-32 match. His move to Estrela Amadora provides a fresh chapter following that international experience and his season with the Portuguese club’s reserve team.
The 18-year-old now joins Estrela Amadora’s squad at the start of the new league campaign, with the club having already collected a point from their first match after drawing with Sporting CP.
