Al Ahly close to re-signing Akram Tawfik from Al Shamal
Al Ahly are close to reaching an agreement to bring back Akram Tawfik from Qatari club Al Shamal and strengthen their squad for the 2026-27 season, according to FilGoal.
The Egypt international is understood to be nearing a settlement with Al Shamal, a step that would allow him to return to Al Ahly and wear the club’s red shirt again. The proposed agreement between Tawfik and Al Ahly is not expected to face any difficulties once the player completes his arrangements with the Qatari side.
Al Ahly’s move for Tawfik has not yet been described as completed. However, the reported settlement with Al Shamal is regarded as the key issue standing between the midfielder and his return to the Egyptian club.
If the transfer is finalised, Tawfik will become Al Ahly’s fifth signing of the summer. He would follow Aqtay Abdullah, Ali Mahmoud, Algeria’s Monsef Bekrar and Morocco’s Soufiane Benjdida in joining the club ahead of the new campaign.
Tawfik moved to Al Shamal last season on a free transfer after his contract with Al Ahly ended. His departure from the Egyptian club came after the conclusion of that agreement, with Al Shamal securing his services without paying a transfer fee.
The player made 23 appearances for Al Shamal during the season and provided three assists. His contribution helped the team finish as runners-up in the Qatar Stars League.
A return to Al Ahly would therefore represent a second spell at the club for Tawfik. The reported move would also see him rejoin a side that has already been active in the summer market, with the four other signings named above placed ahead of him in the club’s recruitment plans.
The developments come only days after Al Ahly sold their Tunisia midfielder Mohamed Ali Ben Romdhane to Al Shamal. That deal means Tawfik could now move in the opposite direction, from the Qatari club back to Al Ahly, if the outstanding settlement is completed.
FilGoal reported the developments on Wednesday, 12 August 2026, at 11:54. The report said Tawfik was close to resolving his situation with Al Shamal and that his agreement with Al Ahly should proceed without problems once that process is concluded.
Until the settlement is formally reached and the transfer is completed, Tawfik remains an Al Shamal player. Al Ahly’s interest, however, has placed the 2026-27 season as the likely point at which he would return to the Cairo club and resume wearing the red shirt.
