Al Ahly forward Mohamed Sherif completes loan move to Iraqi club Al Shorta

Al Ahly have completed the loan transfer of forward Mohamed Sherif to Iraqi club Al Shorta for the 2026-27 season.

An Al Ahly source told FilGoal.com: “We have completed the procedures for Mohamed Sherif’s loan move to Al Shorta.”

The source added: “The player is now outside Al Ahly and belongs to the Iraqi club for next season.”

The agreement means Sherif will spend the coming campaign with Al Shorta before returning to Al Ahly, where he remains under contract until the summer of 2030.

A source close to the player had previously told FilGoal.com that Sherif had reached an agreement with Al Shorta to join on loan for one season.

The source said: “The player had hoped to continue with Al Ahly, but he believes that joining Al Shorta on loan is a good opportunity to make a stronger impression and get a genuine chance to prove his ability before returning again.”

Sherif returned to Al Ahly at the start of the previous season after spending two campaigns with Saudi Arabian club Gulf.

He made 20 appearances for Al Ahly last season, scoring three goals and providing one assist.

His departure comes after Al Ahly strengthened their attacking options during the summer by signing three forwards. The club brought in Moroccan striker Sofiane Bendjida, Algerian forward Monsef Bekrar and Abdallah Aqtay, who joined from Enppi.

Sherif’s loan to Al Shorta therefore gives him the opportunity to seek more regular involvement elsewhere while remaining contracted to the Egyptian club. Al Ahly will retain his registration beyond the upcoming season, with his current deal running until 2030.

The move was confirmed on Tuesday, 11 August 2026, after the final loan procedures were completed.
