Barcelona reveal revamped Camp Nou dressing rooms before Al Ahly return

Barcelona have unveiled newly refurbished dressing rooms at Camp Nou, with the stadium preparing to host the club’s first match in three months when Hansi Flick’s side face Egyptian club Al Ahly in the Joan Gamper Trophy on 19 August.

The match will mark the opening of the new player facilities and the return of Barcelona to their home ground following a period of renovation work. The club’s first La Liga fixture at Camp Nou will come eight days later, on Thursday, 27 August, against Athletic Bilbao.

Barcelona published a video on their social media accounts showing the updated interior areas of the stadium. The images illustrate the progress made since the club’s previous match there, a 17 May meeting with Real Betis.

The dressing-room changes form part of a wider redevelopment programme at Camp Nou. A construction company used the summer break to accelerate work, with the aim of opening the stadium’s third tier during the 2026-27 season.

According to Sport, the original plan was to make the third tier available in October. Its opening would increase the stadium’s current capacity, which stands at 62,000 spectators.

Barcelona also want to speed up the relocation of away supporters to the new section. The move is intended to address problems caused by some visiting fans for Barcelona members during certain fixtures, particularly matches in the Champions League.

However, the latest schedules under consideration have pushed back the expected opening of the third tier. The work could now be completed towards the end of the first quarter of 2027 or at the beginning of the second quarter, placing the projected date between February and April.

Once that phase is finished, construction of the roof covering the entire stadium is due to begin. The installation is expected to require Barcelona to return to the Estadi Olimpic Lluis Companys during the first half of the 2027-28 season.

The opening of the refurbished dressing rooms will therefore offer an early indication of the wider transformation at Camp Nou, even as the most significant stages of the redevelopment remain ahead. Barcelona’s meeting with Al Ahly will be the first opportunity for the club and its supporters to use the updated facilities during a matchday, before the stadium hosts its opening La Liga fixture of the campaign against Athletic Bilbao.
