Romelu Lukaku agrees Fenerbahce move as Turkish football lands another major name

Romelu Lukaku is set to leave Napoli for Fenerbahce after the Turkish club reached an agreement with the Italian side, just days after Mohamed Salah completed his own move to Turkey.

The proposed transfer was confirmed by Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, who reported that Fenerbahce had received the go-ahead from Napoli following an agreement between the two clubs.

Fenerbahce submitted an improved offer worth more than 6m euros, which Napoli accepted. Lukaku has also agreed terms on a personal level, according to Romano, although the deal has so far been concluded verbally.

The clubs and the player are expected to review and exchange the official documents on Tuesday, with the final formalities still required before the transfer can be completed and announced.

Lukaku’s move would give Fenerbahce an experienced and high-profile forward as the club looks to strengthen its attack. The Belgium international is preparing to end his spell with Napoli and take on a new challenge in the Turkish league.

His expected arrival follows Salah’s decision to continue his career in Turkey with Trabzonspor after the end of his time at Liverpool. The two transfers have brought two of world football’s most recognisable names to the Turkish top flight during the same transfer window, although they have chosen different clubs.

Salah’s switch to Trabzonspor generated considerable attention in Turkey. The club secured the deal despite competition from other Turkish sides, prompting widespread interest from supporters and the media.

Lukaku is now poised to follow a similar path by moving to the Turkish league, with Fenerbahce providing his destination. The transfer would add further momentum to a period in which the competition has attracted several high-profile players.

The Belgian striker has built a career at some of Europe’s leading clubs and is regarded as a major signing for Fenerbahce because of his experience and reputation in front of goal. His move would also represent an important step for Napoli, who have agreed to sell the veteran forward after his time in Italy.

Despite the agreement, the transfer is not yet fully complete. The remaining stage is the completion of the paperwork and the exchange of official documents between the relevant parties.

Once those procedures have been finalised, Fenerbahce will be able to confirm Lukaku’s arrival. Until then, the verbal agreement between Napoli, the Turkish club and the player remains the basis of the proposed deal.
