Haitham Hassan to travel to UK as Celtic move reaches final checks

Haitham Hassan is expected to travel to the United Kingdom on Tuesday as Celtic move closer to completing the signing of the Real Oviedo winger.

Sources close to the Spanish club told CeltsAreHere that the 24-year-old will leave Spain for Britain in the coming hours, a sign that negotiations between Celtic and Real Oviedo have reached a decisive stage.

The transfer was described as “almost complete” as recently as Monday morning, although no formal agreement had been signed at that point. However, the latest developments suggest significant progress has been made, with Hassan beginning the process of securing travel permission while officials from both clubs work to finalise the remaining details.

The move has not yet been completed and several final steps must still be taken before Celtic can make an official announcement. The most important of those will be Hassan’s medical examination, which is scheduled to take place after his arrival in Glasgow. The outcome of those checks will determine whether the transfer can be concluded.

Celtic are understood to have agreed a basic fee of about £6m for the winger. Performance-related incentives could increase the overall value of the deal to £8.5m, providing a significant financial boost for Real Oviedo.

Villarreal will also benefit from the transfer. The Spanish club retained 40% of Hassan’s future sale rights when he moved to Real Oviedo, meaning it is set to receive about €2.4m from his transfer to Celtic.

Hassan’s absence from Real Oviedo’s most recent team, for a friendly against French side Le Havre, had prompted questions over his situation. The Spanish club later confirmed that he had not been left out because of an injury, but because his departure was becoming increasingly likely.

The player’s preference is believed to have played an important role in advancing the negotiations. Hassan has been determined to move to Parkhead from the beginning, and Celtic now appear close to completing the signing of one of their main attacking targets in the current transfer window.

The winger is expected to undergo his medical once he reaches Glasgow, with the formal announcement to follow if all final conditions are satisfied. Until then, both Celtic and Real Oviedo are continuing to work through the agreement before confirming the transfer publicly.
