Kapinga backed to revive career as free agent searches for new club

Lesedi Kapinga’s agent believes the 31-year-old winger can quickly revive his career despite being without a club after leaving Orbit College.

Kapinga is currently training on his own in Gauteng while his representative, Mushe Mudau of Mushe Sports Agency, works to secure him a new team. Mudau says discussions have taken place with clubs in Morocco and Tanzania, although those approaches have not yet resulted in a move.

The speedy winger’s career has stalled in recent seasons, but his agent insists Kapinga remains confident about returning to competitive football and is not allowing his current situation to affect him.

“He’s currently in Gauteng training on his own,” said Mudau, speaking to Soccer Laduma this week.

“We are working on getting him a team and we’ve even spoken to clubs in Morocco and Tanzania, but nothing came out of it.”

Mudau remains convinced that Kapinga will be ready to make an immediate impact if the right opportunity arrives.

“Yes, if the opportunity is there. Kapinga is okay. Between Kapinga and me, the one that is complaining is me. He’s going to tell you that God is going to put him somewhere. He always tells me, ‘I’m not here by mistake, I’m here because of God’. That boy is brave. He will tell you that he’s going to bounce back, relax.”

Kapinga’s difficult spell follows a series of moves involving several prominent South African clubs. The former Black Leopards player joined Mamelodi Sundowns six years ago, but his time since that move has not gone as he would have hoped.

He subsequently made another high-profile switch in 2023 when he joined Orlando Pirates. However, his stay with the Buccaneers was brief, with the winger unable to establish a long-term place at the club.

In 2024, Kapinga moved to Sekhukhune United before later joining Orbit College. That spell also ended without the continuity he was seeking, leaving him once again available to negotiate with potential employers.

The player is now a free agent and actively looking for a new home. His immediate priority is to find a club where he can resume his career, while Mudau continues to explore possibilities both in South Africa and abroad.

Despite the setbacks of the past six years, the agent says Kapinga’s attitude remains positive. Mudau’s message is that the winger is prepared to respond when the next opportunity arrives and believes he can bounce back.
