PSG close in on €35m deal for Japanese-Ghanaian goalkeeper Zion Suzuki

Paris Saint-Germain are reportedly closing in on a deal to sign highly rated Parma goalkeeper Zion Suzuki in a move that could further strengthen their long-term options between the posts.

The French champions are understood to have agreed the broad framework of a deal worth around €35 million, including add-ons, for the 23-year-old Japan international, according to transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano.

Suzuki has emerged as one of the most promising young goalkeepers in European football after making a strong impression during his first season in Serie A.

The Parma shot-stopper made 20 league appearances last season, keeping five clean sheets while conceding 28 goals. His performances have continued to attract attention from some of Europe’s biggest clubs.

Suzuki’s stock continues to rise

The goalkeeper’s reputation has also been boosted by his performances for Japan.

Suzuki played every minute of Japan’s World Cup campaign, conceding five goals in four matches before the Asian side were eliminated by Brazil in the Round of 32.

According to Romano, the French giants are considering sending the Japan international out on loan, with Juventus emerging as a potential destination.

That scenario could depend on the future of Lucas Chevalier, with PSG yet to make a final decision on their goalkeeping situation.

A move to Turin would give Suzuki the opportunity to continue developing through regular first-team football while remaining under PSG’s long-term control.

For Parma, meanwhile, the potential €35 million deal would represent a major return on their investment in the Japanese goalkeeper and underline Suzuki’s rapid rise since arriving in European football.
