Barcelona poised to formalise double summer exit involving Ronald Araujo and Jofre Torrents

Barcelona are expected to confirm the departures of Ronald Araujo and Jofre Torrents on Monday after the club’s board approved offers for both players during the current summer transfer window.

Araujo is set to leave for Liverpool, while 19-year-old left-back Torrents is also expected to complete a move away from the Catalan club. Torrents is due to join Ajax Amsterdam, with Barcelona retaining an option to buy him back in the future.

The announcement had been expected on Sunday, but Ajax’s opening match was postponed, meaning the formal confirmation of the transfer is now anticipated later on Monday.

Torrents did not travel to Udine on Saturday because his future had yet to be decided. Barcelona’s young defender has been waiting for clarity over his next move as negotiations continued between the clubs.

Ajax are keen to sign the left-back, who is regarded as a promising talent developed by Barcelona. The Dutch club have already signed Caio Henrique and also have Owen Wijndal in their squad. Wijndal is not currently planning to leave, creating competition for the left-back position.

That situation could influence Torrents’ immediate destination. Ajax sporting director Jordi Cruyff considers the teenager a left-back with significant potential, but may allow him to move to Celta Vigo to gain regular experience with a strong La Liga side. Celta Vigo’s reserve team competes in the Segunda Division.

The proposed arrangement would give Torrents the opportunity to continue his development in Spanish football while remaining linked to Ajax and potentially Barcelona through the buy-back clause. However, the player’s transfer is still awaiting official confirmation.

Barcelona’s announcement would therefore cover two separate exits, with Araujo heading to Liverpool and Torrents moving into a new stage of his career away from the club’s first-team setup.

Torrents’ decision has been closely monitored during the opening stages of the summer market because of his age and his standing within Barcelona’s youth system. The 19-year-old’s inability to travel with the squad to Udine reflected the uncertainty surrounding his situation, rather than an injury or sporting decision.

Ajax’s delayed first match also pushed back the expected completion of the deal. Once the Dutch club’s fixture had been played, the parties were able to proceed with the final steps, leaving Barcelona ready to announce both departures on the same day.

The move would allow Ajax to secure a player viewed by Cruyff as a potential future option at left-back, while the proposed spell at Celta Vigo could provide Torrents with valuable senior football. At the same time, Barcelona would preserve the possibility of bringing him back through the agreed buy-back option.
