Villarreal add Algeria international Hicham Boudaoui to summer shortlist

Villarreal have made an enquiry about OGC Nice midfielder Hicham Boudaoui as they assess a possible move for the Algeria international during the current summer transfer window.

Foot Mercato reports that the 26-year-old has emerged as a player of interest to the Spanish club, who are looking to strengthen their squad with a high-quality Algerian signing.

Boudaoui joined Nice in 2019 and has since made 207 appearances for the French club, scoring 14 goals. His current contract with Nice runs until the summer of 2027.

Villarreal have reportedly taken steps in recent days to establish the midfielder’s situation and determine whether a transfer could be negotiated this summer. The club’s initial approach is understood to have focused on gathering information about his availability, rather than confirming that a deal is imminent.

The Spanish side believe Boudaoui has the qualities required to fit their midfield plans. They see him as a potential partner for Senegal international Pape Gueye in the centre of the pitch, with the pair capable of forming a strong partnership.

Boudaoui has also represented Algeria 37 times at international level. His experience with both Nice and the national team is understood to be part of his appeal to Villarreal as they consider their options in midfield.

The midfielder’s contract situation means Nice remain in a position of strength, with Boudaoui tied to the club until 2027. However, Villarreal’s recent enquiry indicates that they are actively examining the possibility of bringing him to Spain before the summer transfer window closes.

No agreement has been reported between the clubs, and Villarreal’s interest remains at the stage of assessing Boudaoui’s circumstances and the feasibility of a move. For now, the player remains a Nice footballer, while the Spanish club weighs up whether to pursue the Algeria international further.

The proposed move would allow Villarreal to add a player they consider well suited to their midfield structure, while also offering the possibility of a new partnership between Boudaoui and Pape Gueye.
