Trevoh Chalobah heads to Italy as Chelsea spell ends after two decades

Chelsea defender Trevoh Chalobah has completed a permanent transfer to Italian club Como, ending his association with the Premier League side after almost 20 years.

Chelsea confirmed the move on their official website, saying: “Trevoh Chalobah has completed his permanent transfer to Como, bringing to an end his career as a Chelsea player after almost two decades with the Blues.”

Chalobah joined Chelsea’s academy at the age of nine, following in the footsteps of his older brother Nathaniel Chalobah. He progressed through the club’s youth system and became an important member of the side that won the UEFA Youth League in 2016.

He also helped Chelsea win the FA Youth Cup in two successive seasons. Chalobah scored in both the semi-final and final during the 2017 campaign as the club secured the trophy.

The defender then began his senior career with a series of successful loan spells. He spent time with Ipswich Town, Huddersfield Town and Lorient before establishing himself as a permanent member of Chelsea’s first-team squad shortly after turning 22.

Chalobah made an immediate impression on his senior Chelsea debut. He played a key role as the Blues won the UEFA Super Cup in Belfast, beating Villarreal on penalties.

Only a few days later, he marked his first Premier League appearance with a memorable goal in Chelsea’s 3-0 victory over Crystal Palace.

That breakthrough helped underline Chalobah’s ability to contribute at both ends of the pitch, while his time in the academy and on loan had prepared him for regular top-level football.

His departure now brings to a close a long association with Chelsea, where he spent almost his entire footballing development. From joining the academy as a child to becoming part of the senior squad, Chalobah’s career at Stamford Bridge included domestic youth success, European silverware and a spell as a first-team player.

Chalobah, who represented England at the 2026 World Cup, is now preparing for a new chapter with Como.

The Italian club will provide him with the opportunity to continue his career in a side set to compete in the UEFA Champions League for the first time in its history. His move to Como therefore combines the end of a lengthy Chelsea journey with a new challenge in European football.
