Napoli step up efforts to extend Andre-Frank Zambo Anguissa’s contract
Napoli are intensifying efforts to secure the future of Cameroon midfielder Andre-Frank Zambo Anguissa, whose current contract is approaching its expiry.
The club’s new head coach, Massimiliano Allegri, is pushing strongly for the midfielder to remain part of his squad, despite Anguissa’s initial desire to leave following a demanding season.
The situation has gathered momentum at Napoli’s training camp in Castel di Sangro, where Anguissa’s agent, Maxime Nana, was seen alongside a representative of the Italian manager.
The meeting is viewed as a significant indication that negotiations over a contract extension could resume shortly. Those discussions have been encouraged by Anguissa’s impressive performances during pre-season.
Allegri has been won over by the Cameroon international’s commitment and contribution in recent weeks. The coach believes Napoli should do everything possible to retain a player with Anguissa’s level of experience and quality.
The final decision now rests with Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis, who must present the midfielder’s representatives with a new and sufficiently attractive contract proposal.
Anguissa’s position has therefore changed from one of uncertainty to one of renewed importance within Allegri’s plans. While the player had previously considered moving on after a challenging campaign, the coach’s determination to keep him has added fresh impetus to the situation.
No agreement has yet been confirmed, but the presence of Nana at Castel di Sangro alongside a representative of Allegri points to a possible restart in discussions between the two sides.
Napoli are now expected to assess the financial terms required to persuade Anguissa to extend his stay. De Laurentiis will have responsibility for turning Allegri’s sporting preference into a formal offer capable of satisfying the player’s camp.
The midfielder’s displays in pre-season have strengthened the case for retaining him, with his involvement and consistency making a positive impression on the new coaching staff. Allegri’s view is that such a high-level profile would be difficult to replace within the squad.
For now, Anguissa’s future remains unresolved, but Napoli’s approach has become increasingly clear: the club want to keep the Cameroon international and are preparing to renew talks over a new deal.
