Trabzonspor beaten by Goztepe in friendly held without Mohamed Salah

Trabzonspor were beaten 2-1 by Goztepe in a friendly match held without Mohamed Salah, who was left out of the Turkish club’s squad because he was not yet ready to play.

The game formed part of an event organised to mark the anniversary of former footballer Ismail Koybası. Goztepe secured victory by scoring twice, while Trabzonspor managed one goal in response.

Salah’s absence was the main talking point surrounding the match after the Egypt international recently signed a two-season contract with Trabzonspor. The club confirmed that he would receive an annual salary of 10m euros under the agreement.

The contract also includes a signing-on bonus of 7m euros, taking the guaranteed value of Salah’s package to 17m euros. Additional financial incentives have been included and are linked to the player’s performances during the term of the deal.

Trabzonspor also stated that Salah would be entitled to 20% of the income generated from official merchandise released in his name. The published details of the agreement further show that the player’s agent will receive a commission of 5%.

Salah was not included in the squad for the friendly because he had not reached full fitness. His move to Trabzonspor follows nine seasons with Liverpool, during which he established himself as one of the club’s leading attacking players.

The forward made 315 appearances for Liverpool, scoring 257 goals and providing 120 assists before his transfer to Trabzonspor.

The defeat by Goztepe was therefore Trabzonspor’s latest match without their new signing, whose arrival has been accompanied by a contract involving a substantial guaranteed salary, performance-based payments and commercial rights connected to his name.
