Stellenbosch FC consider move for Ghana goalkeeper Solomon Agbasi

Stellenbosch FC are considering a move for Ghanaian goalkeeper Solomon Agbasi, who is reportedly keen to join the South African club from Hearts of Oak.

Soccer Laduma has been informed that Stellenbosch are exploring the possibility of signing the 25-year-old as they look to strengthen their squad. Agbasi is understood to be interested in the potential transfer, although Stellenbosch have declined to comment on the speculation.

The goalkeeper has earned a strong reputation in Ghana and was included in the Black Stars’ provisional squad for the FIFA 2026 World Cup in North America. He did not make the final selection for the tournament, but remained with the squad as a standby player.

Agbasi previously played for Dreams FC before moving to Hearts of Oak. His performances in Ghana’s top flight have provided the basis for the interest from Stellenbosch, with the goalkeeper having made 74 league appearances for Dreams FC and Hearts of Oak.

During those matches, he conceded 54 goals and recorded 36 clean sheets.

A move to Stellenbosch would place Agbasi in competition with Sage Stephens, who is currently regarded as the club’s first-choice goalkeeper. Stephens also wears the captain’s armband, making him an important figure within Gavin Hunt’s team.

Stellenbosch have already added another goalkeeper to their squad, recently signing Nathan Garrow from New Zealand club Auckland City. Garrow was named among the substitutes for the team’s opening league match against AmaZulu.

The possible arrival of Agbasi also comes amid reports that Stellenbosch could lose New Zealand goalkeeper Dublin Boon to Orlando Pirates. That potential departure would increase the need for further options in the position and could influence the club’s interest in the Hearts of Oak player.

Agbasi’s experience at the top level in Ghana, combined with his involvement in the Black Stars’ provisional World Cup group, has made him an attractive option. However, there has been no confirmation that a deal has been agreed, and Stellenbosch have not publicly commented on the reported approach.

For now, Stephens remains the established number one at the club, while Garrow is another recent addition to the goalkeeping department. Agbasi’s potential move would give Stellenbosch further competition in the position as they prepare for the season ahead.
