Ferran Torres poised to leave Barcelona for Paris Saint-Germain as clubs target swift agreement

Ferran Torres is expected to leave Barcelona for Paris Saint-Germain after the two clubs opened advanced negotiations over a transfer which all parties hope to complete within the next few days.

The Spain forward has told people close to him that he wants to move to the French capital, according to Spanish newspaper Marca. His decision appears to have brought an end to the uncertainty surrounding his future at Barcelona, with the player now strongly inclined to depart this summer.

Talks between Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain are being conducted away from the spotlight by the clubs’ sporting directors, Deco and Luis Campos. The pair have a strong relationship, while attention around Barcelona has focused on other potential transfer matters involving Julian Alvarez, Rodri and Ronald Araujo.

Torres has already reached an agreement with Paris Saint-Germain over personal terms, with the proposed contract set to run for four seasons. The remaining issue is for the clubs to settle the financial details of the deal.

Negotiations are continuing with both sides understood to be close in their valuation of the transfer. Barcelona are expected to receive a fee approaching 50m euros for the Spain international, although the final amount, as well as the bonuses and other variables included in the agreement, still need to be finalised.

The preference of Barcelona, Paris Saint-Germain and Torres is to complete the move before Wednesday, when the forward is due to return to Barcelona training. That would prevent him from having to report for duty with the Catalan club while his future remains unresolved.

A deal is now considered close, increasing the possibility that Paris Saint-Germain could officially announce Torres’ arrival shortly.

Interest from Paris Saint-Germain in Torres is not a completely new development. The possibility of a move first emerged during the World Cup, when reports indicated that the French club was considering an approach for the player.

At that stage, neither Paris Saint-Germain nor Torres publicly confirmed that negotiations were taking place. However, the forward left the door open to a departure during a recent interview in the United States.

“I have a contract with Barcelona, but… in football you never know what may happen. I am waiting to make the right decision and I do not even know yet,” Torres said.

He also sent a clear message to Barcelona about what he wanted from the club, suggesting he needed to feel that the team were determined to keep him.

“They have to prove that they want me and come to negotiate, and in the end everything will work out as it should,” he added.

Barcelona had planned to meet Torres on Wednesday, when the club’s Spain internationals were scheduled to resume training after their period of rest following the World Cup.

The player’s preference for a move to Paris has altered those plans. If Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain reach a final agreement before the training date, the proposed meeting is unlikely to be needed.

For now, the negotiations remain focused on completing the transfer fee and settling the contractual variables. With personal terms already agreed between Torres and Paris Saint-Germain, the outcome depends on whether the two clubs can close the remaining gap quickly enough to meet their shared deadline.
