Ivory Coast FA president Idriss Diallo explains decision to appoint Hervé Renard for second Elephants spell

The President of the Ivorian Football Federation (FIF), Idriss Diallo, has explained the decision to appoint Herve Renard for a second spell with the Elephants.

After parting ways with Emerse Fae, the West African giants has settled on Renard to steer affairs as the team gears up for impe4dning qualifiers and tournaments.

Following his unveiling, Diallo outlined the federation’s vision and revealed why the Executive Committee believed Renard was the right man to guide the national team into its next phase.

“The responsibility of a federation is to build, consolidate, evolve and adapt. Our plan is simple: to continue the work already done and improve upon it for the benefit of Ivory Coast,” Diallo said.

“The Executive Committee felt that Hervé Renard possessed all these qualities. The Federation will do everything in its power to provide him with the best possible working conditions so that he can achieve the objectives set,” he added.

Renard’s appointment represents a return to familiar territory for the French coach, who previously guided Ivory Coast to Africa Cup of Nations success in 2015. His history with the national team and understanding of African football were considered key factors in the federation’s decision.

Diallo believes that Renard’s experience on the continent, combined with his ability to manage teams under pressure, makes him a suitable candidate to lead the Elephants as they pursue further success.

The FA president also emphasized that the federation will provide the necessary support to ensure the coach has the tools required to succeed. He insisted that the responsibility of achieving results will be a collective effort involving the technical team, players, federation officials and other stakeholders.

With Ivory Coast aiming to remain among Africa’s leading football nations, Diallo highlighted the importance of unity and cooperation moving forward.

He also acknowledged the continued support of the Ivorian government, which has consistently backed the national team and played an important role in creating favourable conditions for the Elephants.

“With the ongoing support of the Government, which has always spared no effort in backing the Elephants, we are ready to tackle the challenges ahead together,” Diallo stated.

The appointment of Renard comes at a crucial period for Ivory Coast, with the team preparing for major objectives in the coming years, including future Africa Cup of Nations tournaments.

The federation is confident that the Frenchman’s experience, tactical knowledge and winning mentality can help the Elephants achieve their ambitions.
