Al Ahly confirm Mohamed Ali Ben Romdhane departure as Al Shamal move nears

Al Ahly have officially announced the departure of Tunisia midfielder Mohamed Ali Ben Romdhane after one season with the Egyptian club.

The club thanked Ben Romdhane for his time with the team but did not confirm where he would continue his career. However, Al Shamal are understood to have agreed terms with Al Ahly for the player, with the transfer expected to be completed within the next few days once the contracts have been signed.

Ben Romdhane did not travel with the Al Ahly squad to Spain as the club began preparations for the new season. His absence from the travelling party came before the expected move to Qatar, with Al Shamal set to become his next club.

The 26-year-old joined Al Ahly from Hungarian side Ferencvarosi at the beginning of the current season. His spell in Egypt lasted one season, during which he made 36 appearances for the club in all competitions.

Ben Romdhane scored two goals and provided four assists during his time with Al Ahly. The club’s announcement formally brought his stay to an end, although it did not include details of the transfer fee or the precise timing of his move.

Al Ahly’s decision to announce his departure follows earlier reports that an agreement had been reached with Al Shamal over the details of the deal. Ben Romdhane is expected to complete his transfer to the Qatari club in the coming days after the formal documents are signed.

The announcement was made on Thursday, 6 August 2026, as Al Ahly continued their preparations for the new campaign in Spain without the Tunisia international.

Ben Romdhane arrived at Al Ahly after leaving Ferencvarosi and completed a single season with the club. Across his 36 appearances, he contributed two goals and four assists before the two sides agreed to part company.
