Rennes reject Fulham approach for Morocco defender Abdelhamid Ait Boudlal

Rennes have decided to keep Morocco defender Abdelhamid Ait Boudlal despite receiving a formal offer from Fulham for the 20-year-old centre-back.

The French club are determined not to part with Ait Boudlal, whose contract with Rennes has two years remaining. His performances last season attracted attention and prompted Fulham to make an official approach for his signature.

According to French website Foot Mercato, Ait Boudlal would be open to a new challenge in the Premier League. The defender is said to welcome the possibility of moving to England during the current summer transfer window.

However, Rennes’ position is clear: the club want the Morocco international prospect to remain with them. Their decision represents a firm commitment to retaining a player who made a significant impression during the previous campaign.

Ait Boudlal featured in 21 matches for Rennes last season, showcasing his ability at senior level and emerging as one of the most closely watched young defenders in Moroccan football.

Although he was not included in Morocco’s squad for the last World Cup, he remains regarded as one of the country’s leading rising talents. His progress with Rennes has continued to draw interest, with Fulham’s proposal underlining the growing attention surrounding him.

For now, though, Rennes are not prepared to allow the defender to leave. With two seasons still left on his current agreement, the club hold a strong position as they seek to preserve the services of a player they believe has further potential to develop.

Fulham’s interest reflects the reputation Ait Boudlal built through his performances last season, but Rennes’ decision means any move to the Premier League will not take place unless the French club change their stance.

The report was published on Thursday, 6 August 2026.
