Rodri transfer decision sparks fresh Barcelona claim as Real Madrid wait

A French content creator has claimed, with what he described as “99%” certainty, that Manchester City midfielder Rodri Hernandez has chosen Barcelona over Real Madrid, adding fresh uncertainty to the player’s future during the closing stages of the summer transfer window.

Rodri had appeared to be heading towards Real Madrid, while Barcelona are monitoring the situation in case the Spain international decides he wants to wear the Catalan club’s shirt.

The midfielder’s future has dominated the final hours of the summer market, with his next move reportedly still undecided. However, the latest claims have not been confirmed by Rodri, Manchester City, Real Madrid or Barcelona.

According to Catalan newspaper Mundo Deportivo, French content creator Riles discussed the situation in a recent video. Riles has a substantial following on YouTube and is connected with some French players at Real Madrid.

He expressed his disappointment at the possibility of Rodri joining Barcelona, suggesting the delay over the player’s future could be linked to the Catalan club’s financial and registration situation.

“Rodri is supposed to rule out Real Madrid, and I’m afraid it’s because of Barcelona. I’m afraid Rodri has let Real Madrid down, and the reason is Barcelona,” said Riles.

He added: “What I’m telling you is not from Madrid, but I’m confident about this. There is a theory that the reason for all this delay is to explore the possibility of registering with Barcelona. I’m 99% certain that Rodri has let us down for Barcelona.”

Riles then claimed the midfielder had already made his preference clear, while acknowledging that he could be wrong.

“Rodri would choose Barcelona. I hope I’m wrong, that’s all I have to say. I have received exclusive information that Rodri chose Barcelona, and I hope I’m not wrong,” he said.

Rodri remains under contract with Manchester City until 2027. The club value the prospective deal at between 60m euros and 65m euros.

The midfielder’s outstanding performances have also increased attention around his position in the transfer market. Rodri was named the best player at the 2026 World Cup, and his status as a Manchester City player has made any potential move particularly significant.
