Gavi fulfils Spain World Cup promise with daring makeover that amuses Lamine Yamal
Barcelona midfielder Gavi has honoured a pre-tournament promise by dyeing his hair pink after Spain won the 2026 World Cup in the United States, Canada and Mexico.
Spain became world champions for only the second time in their history after securing a dramatic 1-0 victory over Argentina in the final. The match, played at the New York New Jersey stadium, went beyond 90 minutes and was decided after a marathon contest that reached extra time.
Gavi had promised to dye his hair pink if Spain lifted the trophy. With the title secured, the Barcelona player followed through and visited a hairdresser to make the striking change to his appearance.
The midfielder shared the result with his followers on Instagram, posting two photographs showing his new look. The images displayed the light pink colour he had chosen for his hair.
“A man who keeps his word,” Gavi wrote in the caption accompanying the pictures.
His hairdresser also posted details of the process used to create the new style. Gavi did not hesitate to have his head shaved before his hair was lightened and then coloured pink.
The new look quickly attracted a reaction from his Spain team-mate Lamine Yamal, who responded to Gavi’s Instagram post with laughing and crying emojis.
The makeover means Gavi will return to Barcelona after the World Cup with a noticeably different appearance. The midfielder still has several days of holiday remaining before he reports for club duty.
Gavi is scheduled to join Barcelona’s training camp on 12 August, when he will begin preparations for the new season alongside his Spain team-mates. He will arrive directly after his involvement in the World Cup, bringing an eye-catching new style with him as he looks to continue performing strongly for Barcelona.
Spain’s victory over Argentina completed the international side’s rise to the top of world football for the second time. The final was decided only after the two teams had battled through a long and demanding match at the New York New Jersey stadium.
For Gavi, the triumph also provided the opportunity to deliver on the promise he had made before the tournament. His Instagram post showed that the commitment was more than a joke, while Yamal’s response suggested his team-mate’s bold appearance had provided plenty of amusement.
The Barcelona midfielder will now have a short break before turning his attention back to club football. When he joins the training camp on 12 August, he will do so as a world champion and with his light pink hair marking the occasion.
