Ferran Torres keen on Paris Saint-Germain project as Barcelona consider summer offer
Ferran Torres has given Paris Saint-Germain permission to pursue a transfer from Barcelona, with formal negotiations between the two clubs expected to begin in the coming days.
According to Spanish newspaper Sport, the Spain international has told the French club’s hierarchy that they can move forward with an approach for him after being convinced by the sporting plan presented by manager Luis Enrique.
The discussions between Torres and Paris Saint-Germain have been under way for several weeks rather than starting recently. Luis Enrique is reported to have played a significant role in persuading the Barcelona forward to consider the move, with the promise of an important position in the club’s project.
Torres informed Paris Saint-Germain of his decision before the end of his summer holiday. The French champions are now preparing to reopen contact with Barcelona and lay the groundwork for an official offer.
The player had previously suggested that he was open to taking on a new challenge. He said all possibilities remained open in football, particularly if an opportunity arrived that met his ambitions both on the pitch and financially.
Barcelona are understood to want to keep Torres, but the club would be willing to examine a substantial proposal. Their financial situation means they need to improve their economic position, while a sizeable sale could help fund further recruitment during the transfer window.
The potential departure comes as Barcelona continue to strengthen their attack. The Catalan club are still monitoring developments in their efforts to sign Argentina forward Julian Alvarez, and selling Torres could provide the financial flexibility needed to complete their other transfer targets.
Paris Saint-Germain, meanwhile, are looking to rebuild their forward line following Randal Kolo Muani’s move to Juventus. That transfer has provided the French club with additional funds which could be used to finance an agreement for Torres.
Sport reports that all parties now understand the direction of the proposed deal and that there is a shared desire to complete it before the Spanish internationals return to Barcelona training next week.
That timetable could lead to rapid progress if Paris Saint-Germain submit their formal bid in the next few days. The French club are expected to make the first official move, after receiving the player’s approval to begin negotiations.
The report also indicates that Paris Saint-Germain could announce their new signing within days if talks with Barcelona advance quickly. For now, however, the transfer remains dependent on an agreement between the clubs, with the formal stage of the process yet to begin.
