Greuther Furth sign Egyptian midfielder Omar Abdel-Meguid on two-year deal

Greuther Furth have signed Egyptian midfielder Omar Abdel-Meguid on a two-year contract, with the German club holding an option to extend the agreement for a further season.

The 20-year-old impressed the coaching staff during pre-season, having featured for Greuther Furth in friendly matches against Hoffenheim, Paris FC and Freiburg. His performances in those games earned him a permanent deal with the club.

Abdel-Meguid, who was born in Hamburg, had regularly trained with Hamburger SV’s first team and was included in the squad for several of the club’s Bundesliga 2 matches.

He made his Hamburger SV debut at the age of 16, becoming the youngest player to represent the club during a period when they were competing in Germany’s second tier.

Greuther Furth confirmed the signing in an official statement on Wednesday, 5 August 2026, bringing Abdel-Meguid’s trial period to an end after he had been given the opportunity to work with the first team.

Speaking to Greuther Furth’s official website, Abdel-Meguid said: “The team welcomed me very well even when I was a trialist, and the working conditions here are excellent, so I am very happy to be joining the club permanently.”

He added: “I believe I will continue to develop here and that moving to Greuther Furth is the right step in my career.”

Abdel-Meguid spent much of his development at Hamburger SV and made 113 appearances across the club’s different age groups. He scored 10 goals and provided 16 assists during that time.

His move to Greuther Furth represents the next stage of a career that began with a landmark appearance for Hamburger SV at just 16. He will now continue his development with the German club after convincing its coaching staff that he was ready for a permanent place in the squad.
