Bayer Leverkusen sign Spain left-back Miguel Gutierrez from Napoli
Bayer Leverkusen have completed the signing of Spanish left-back Miguel Gutierrez from Napoli on a contract running until 30 June 2031.
The German club announced the deal on Wednesday, 5 August 2026, adding a player who made 36 appearances for Napoli in all competitions last season. Gutierrez helped the Italian side finish second in the league during his campaign at the club.
Gutierrez, 25, began his development at the Real Madrid academy before moving to Girona. He then joined Napoli in the summer of last year, and spent the following season playing a prominent role for the club.
His arrival strengthens Bayer Leverkusen’s options at left-back and gives the team a defender regarded by the club as particularly suited to its approach. Sporting director Simon Rolfes highlighted Gutierrez’s ability in possession and his willingness to contribute in attacking areas.
“Miguel Gutierrez is a defender with great quality on the ball who tends to take on attacking roles, which fits in with our team’s style of play,” Rolfes said.
“We are signing an outstanding player and an ideal solution for this position.”
Gutierrez said he was pleased to have moved to Leverkusen and spoke positively about the club’s reputation in both Italy and Spain.
“The club has impressed me a lot in recent years and has an excellent reputation in Italy as well as in Spain,” he said.
“I have heard a lot about the German league and watched many of its matches, and I am looking forward to taking on this experience.”
The Spain defender also outlined his ambitions with his new club, saying he wanted to compete for success in domestic and continental competitions.
“I want to achieve success domestically and in Europe, and I believe Bayer Leverkusen provides me with the best conditions to do that because they have a strong team,” Gutierrez added.
Gutierrez will wear the number three shirt at Bayer Leverkusen.
His career has now taken him from the Real Madrid academy to Girona, then to Napoli and on to Leverkusen. The move means he joins the German club after a season in which he featured 36 times for Napoli across all competitions and helped them secure second place in the Italian league.
The long-term agreement, which is valid through the end of June 2031, marks Bayer Leverkusen’s official addition of a 25-year-old Spanish left-back with experience in Spain and Italy.
