Liverpool target Paris Saint-Germain duo as attack rebuild gathers pace
Liverpool are considering a move for Paris Saint-Germain winger Ibrahim Mbaye as part of a potential double deal that would also bring Bradley Barcola to Anfield.
The Premier League club are examining ways to strengthen their forward line after the departure of Mohamed Salah to Turkish side Trabzonspor. Liverpool are understood to be assessing whether an approach for both Paris Saint-Germain players could provide the attacking reinforcements they want before the new season begins.
According to the English newspaper Daily Mail, Liverpool are among the clubs interested in Mbaye. Manchester City and Tottenham are also reported to have shown an interest in the Senegalese player.
Liverpool’s interest comes amid growing concern over the club’s attacking options and the overall strength of their forward line. The club are therefore considering an ambitious proposal for two quick Paris Saint-Germain attackers, although any agreement would come at a significant cost.
Paris Saint-Germain are expected to demand more than £150m for the pair during the current summer transfer window. That figure reflects the value the French club places on both players, despite their limited involvement in the team’s starting line-up.
Liverpool are hoping to take advantage of the fact that Barcola and Mbaye have spent much of their time on the Paris Saint-Germain substitutes’ bench. The Premier League side believe regular playing opportunities could strengthen their case as they attempt to take the two players to England.
Barcola and Mbaye are viewed as targets who could add pace to Liverpool’s attack, with the club looking to reshape that area of the squad following Salah’s move to Trabzonspor. The proposed deal would represent a major investment, but Liverpool are weighing the possibility of signing both players rather than pursuing only one of them.
Mbaye’s situation has also attracted interest from other Premier League clubs, meaning Liverpool may face competition if they decide to formalise their interest. Manchester City and Tottenham are the other clubs identified as potential suitors for the Senegalese winger.
For now, Liverpool are studying the possibility of making an offer, while Paris Saint-Germain’s expected valuation remains a substantial obstacle. The French club would reportedly seek a fee exceeding £150m to allow both Barcola and Mbaye to leave in the summer market.
Liverpool’s plans are centred on adding new attacking options before the new campaign starts. Their potential pursuit of the Paris Saint-Germain pair is part of that process, with Barcola and Mbaye’s regular presence among the substitutes giving the English club encouragement that a deal may be possible.
