Newcastle target Germany-Nigerian midfielder Felix Nmecha amid Bruno Guimarães uncertainty

Newcastle United have identified Borussia Dortmund midfielder Felix Nmecha as a leading candidate to replace Bruno Guimarães, who is reportedly close to joining Arsenal.

The Premier League club are said to have already opened discussions with Dortmund as they explore the possibility of signing the Germany international before the transfer window closes.

Nmecha, who is under contract with the Bundesliga side until 2030, has also attracted interest from Manchester United and Manchester City, where he spent part of his youth career.

Newcastle begin talks with Dortmund

According to the report, Newcastle officials have already held initial talks with Borussia Dortmund and are aware of the German club’s demands regarding a potential transfer.

The 25-year-old is viewed as an ideal option to strengthen Newcastle’s midfield as uncertainty continues to surround the future of Guimarães.

The Magpies have already added young midfielder Aladji Bamba from Monaco this summer, but Nmecha is considered a player capable of making an immediate impact in the centre of the park.

Key figure for club and country

Nmecha enjoyed an impressive campaign with Dortmund last season, establishing himself as one of the club’s most important players.

The Hamburg-born midfielder started 36 of his 42 appearances in all competitions, scoring five goals and providing three assists.

His performances at club level also earned him a place in Germany’s World Cup squad under Julian Nagelsmann, where he featured in all four matches, contributing one goal and two assists.

Premier League return on the cards?

Having previously spent time in Manchester City’s academy, Nmecha could now be set for a return to English football if Newcastle can strike a deal with Dortmund.

However, with interest from several Premier League clubs and Dortmund reluctant to lose one of their key midfielders, negotiations are expected to be complicated.
