Ashley du Preez: South Africa striker completes Stellenbosch FC return from Kaizer Chiefs

South Africa striker Ashley du Preez has joined Stellenbosch FC from Kaizer Chiefs, bringing the 29-year-old centre-forward back to the club where he began his previous spell in senior football.

Du Preez returns to Stellenbosch after four seasons with Kaizer Chiefs, having moved in the opposite direction in July 2022. Chiefs paid €600,000 for the forward at the time, according to the transfer record.

The striker spent the 2025-26 season with Chiefs and was part of the squad that won the Nedbank Cup in the 2024-25 campaign. That remains the only achievement recorded in his senior career.

Born in Stellenbosch, Western Cape, Du Preez has now rejoined the club from his home area. He stands 1.76m tall and is listed as a centre-forward, with a left foot as his preferred foot.

His move comes at the start of the 2026-27 Betway Premiership season. He had not made an appearance for Chiefs in the campaign before switching clubs, with the league season having registered one possible game at the time of the transfer.

Du Preez had previously established himself at Stellenbosch before earning his move to Kaizer Chiefs in 2022. His return gives the club back a forward who has already represented it at senior level, while completing a reversal of the move that took him to Chiefs four years ago.

The transfer also places the striker back in the Betway Premiership, where both Stellenbosch and Kaizer Chiefs compete. No contract length has been announced for his new spell, and no fee has been disclosed for the move.

Du Preez’s market value is listed at €800,000, following a highest recorded value of €1m. The figure provides context for his standing in the transfer market but does not represent the fee paid for his return to Stellenbosch.

The forward’s career now includes a Nedbank Cup winners’ medal with Kaizer Chiefs and two spells at Stellenbosch FC. His latest move was completed on 4 August 2026.
