Waldhof Mannheim bring in Bochum defender Darnell Keumo on season-long loan
German-Cameroonian left-back Darnell Keumo has joined Waldhof Mannheim from VfL Bochum on a season-long loan running until 30 June 2027.
The 18-year-old defender moves from the 2. Bundesliga club to Mannheim, who play in Germany’s 3. Liga. Keumo joined Bochum’s first team from the club’s under-19 side in July 2025 and now switches to Waldhof for the 2026-27 campaign.
Keumo has already made one appearance in the Regionalliga West this season, completing the full 90 minutes. He was named in the starting XI for that match and recorded no goals, assists or disciplinary cards.
Born in Essen on 1 October 2007, Keumo represents both Germany and Cameroon at international level. He was part of the Germany Under-17 team that won the Torneio Internacional Algarve U17 in 2024.
The move continues a progression through the Bochum system that began when Keumo joined the club’s youth set-up from ESG 99/06 in 2019. He moved into Bochum’s under-17 team in 2022 before stepping up to the under-19 squad two years later.
A left-footed defender, Keumo has played exclusively as a left-back in the senior statistics recorded for his career. His arrival gives Waldhof a player with experience in Bochum’s development structure while adding cover in a defensive position for the club’s campaign in the third tier.
Keumo’s transfer to Mannheim is his first move away from Bochum since joining the club’s senior squad. His previous switch from Bochum’s under-19s in 2025 was part of his advancement into first-team football.
The loan agreement includes a scheduled return to VfL Bochum at its conclusion on 30 June 2027. Keumo has therefore joined Waldhof Mannheim temporarily, with his parent club retaining his registration beyond the current season.
