Kaizer Chiefs boss Fernando Da Cruz coy on further signings

Kaizer Chiefs head coach Fernando Da Cruz has refused to confirm whether Amakhosi will add more players before the transfer window closes in September.

Da Cruz was speaking after Kaizer Chiefs began their 2026/27 Betway Premiership campaign with a 3-1 victory over Kruger United. The result put his side at the top of the table after the opening day of fixtures.

The French coach was asked whether supporters could expect further arrivals, but did not give a direct answer. Instead, he stressed that the immediate priority is to improve the players already at Naturena.

Kaizer Chiefs secured all three points against Kruger United after substitute Wandile Duba scored twice. His contribution from the bench helped Da Cruz’s team finish the match strongly and underlined the importance the manager places on the whole squad rather than only his starting XI.

“It’s very important because for the moment it’s not just the starting XI, it’s a full squad,” he told SuperSport TV.

“All players are important and all players who came on today were important. They helped us to keep the level very high.”

Duba’s two goals made a decisive impact after he was introduced, and Da Cruz used the performance of his substitutes to reinforce his view that every member of the squad has a role to play.

The victory leaves Kaizer Chiefs top of the Betway Premiership following the first round of games, although Da Cruz said the team still has considerable work to do before it reaches the standard he expects.

Asked directly if more new signings would arrive before the September deadline, Da Cruz appeared to sidestep the issue. Rather than discussing potential transfers, he focused on the work required during training at Naturena and called for patience.

“We need improve our game, a lot of things,” he added.

“We work again and again. For the moment we need to stay calm, because we didn’t reach our best level, we need to work at Naturena every day.”

Da Cruz’s comments suggest his attention is currently fixed on developing the existing group following the opening-day win. While the coach did not rule out further recruitment, he also did not indicate that any additional player was close to joining Amakhosi.

For now, Kaizer Chiefs have begun the new Betway Premiership season with a victory, a strong showing from the bench and a place at the top of the early table. Their next focus, according to Da Cruz, will be raising the team’s performance level through continued work at Naturena.
