Mostafa Shobeir returns to Al Ahly training after World Cup campaign

Mostafa Shobeir has returned to Al Ahly training as the Egypt goalkeeper begins preparations for the new season, after being given time off with the country’s other international players following their World Cup campaign.

The 26-year-old posted a photograph of himself at Al Ahly’s training base as the club stepped up its preparations for the start of the new campaign.

Shobeir’s contract with Al Ahly runs until the end of next season. However, his future has attracted attention after a strong World Cup, with several clubs reportedly interested in signing him.

Fabrizio Romano reported that Shobeir has signed with CAA Base to manage his career. The agency also represents Brazil manager Carlo Ancelotti, Chelsea players Cole Palmer and Moises Caicedo, and Tottenham pair Richarlison and Pedro Porro, among other footballers and figures in the game.

An Al Ahly source previously told FilGoal.com: “We have decided to settle the contract renewal files of the two internationals, Mostafa Shobeir and Imam Ashour, before the team’s pre-season camp begins.”

Shobeir played a key role as Egypt qualified for the last 16 of the World Cup. Their campaign ended with a 3-2 defeat by Argentina in the knockout stage.

He impressed during the tournament, saving penalties taken by Iran forward Mehdi Taremi in the group stage and Argentina captain Lionel Messi in the last-16 match.

The goalkeeper has made 70 appearances for Al Ahly, keeping 38 clean sheets and conceding 44 goals.

His return to training comes as Al Ahly prepares for the 2026-27 season, with the draw for the new Egyptian Premier League campaign scheduled to take place on 5 August.

Al Ahly finished third in last season’s league table and consequently qualified for the CAF Confederation Cup.

Shobeir’s involvement in the club’s preparations follows his period of rest with Egypt’s international players. His performances at the World Cup have increased speculation over a possible departure, although he remains under contract with Al Ahly beyond the forthcoming season.
