Mohamed Amoura poised for Bundesliga move as Leipzig assess Wolfsburg forward

Algeria international Mohamed Amoura is expected to leave Wolfsburg this summer, with RB Leipzig reportedly leading the race to sign the forward as Yan Diomande prepares to depart for Real Madrid.

Amoura’s time with Wolfsburg appears to be coming to an end after two seasons at the club. His latest campaign was particularly unsettled, with tensions developing between the player and the club’s management. Wolfsburg have also been relegated to the second tier of German football.

The 26-year-old has attracted interest from several clubs outside Germany. Benfica have renewed their pursuit after coming close to signing him last summer, while Everton have also been linked with a move in recent days.

However, Amoura is now expected to remain in the Bundesliga. His agent has indicated that an agreement with the player’s next club is 80% complete, with the remaining details understood to be in the process of being finalised.

RB Leipzig are thought to be in the strongest position to complete the deal. According to transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano, the club view the former Setif player as the ideal replacement for Yan Diomande, who is set to leave Leipzig for Real Madrid.

Amoura joined Wolfsburg in the summer of 2024 on loan from Union Saint-Gilloise, with an option to make the transfer permanent. During the most recent season, he made 33 appearances, starting 24 of those matches. He scored eight goals and provided four assists.

The Algeria forward remains under contract with Wolfsburg until June 2029. His current market value is estimated at €20m by Transfermarkt.

Amoura has represented Algeria 47 times and has scored 19 international goals. His potential move to Leipzig would allow him to continue playing in Germany’s top flight despite Wolfsburg’s relegation, while also giving Leipzig a possible attacking replacement for Diomande.

The situation remains subject to the completion of the final terms, but the indication from Amoura’s representative is that negotiations are well advanced. Benfica and Everton remain interested, yet Leipzig currently appear to hold the advantage in the transfer race.

A move would also mark the next step in Amoura’s career after two seasons in Wolfsburg, where his form has made him one of the most sought-after players connected with the relegated club.
