Elmo Kambindu joins Magesi FC after AmaZulu departure

Former AmaZulu and Chippa United striker Elmo Kambindu has joined Magesi FC on a one-year contract as the recently relegated club begins its preparations for the 2026/27 Motsepe Foundation Championship season.

The 33-year-old Namibian left AmaZulu at the end of the previous campaign after scoring four goals in 21 appearances for the Durban-based side. AmaZulu had signed him from Chippa United, where he had established himself as a dependable presence over several seasons.

Kambindu will now attempt to help Magesi FC secure an immediate return to the Betway Premiership. The club has turned to the experienced forward as it looks to recover from relegation and challenge for promotion during the new campaign.

Although he has not generally been regarded as a prolific goalscorer, Kambindu has built his reputation around his physical presence, tireless work rate and ability to hold the ball up. Those qualities made him a regular figure for Chippa United during his time with the club.

He scored five goals in 43 appearances for Chippa United, numbers that reflect his role as a reliable campaigner in the Premier Soccer League rather than a traditional penalty-box marksman. His earlier experience in the top flight is expected to add strength and know-how to a Magesi FC squad seeking to return to the highest level.

Magesi FC spent two seasons in the Betway Premiership before their relegation. During that period, the club won the Carling Knockout Cup, one of the notable achievements in its recent top-flight spell.

Kambindu’s move gives him another opportunity to continue his career in South African football after spells with two Betway Premiership clubs. He will join Magesi FC with the immediate objective of helping the side compete for promotion in the Motsepe Foundation Championship.

His arrival also marks the latest stage of a career in which he has been valued for his contribution to the team’s overall play, particularly his ability to occupy defenders, compete physically and bring teammates into attacking moves.
