Barcelona’s summer winger reshuffle leaves Roony Bardghji in transfer limbo

Barcelona still have significant work to do on their list of potential departures, with the transfer window entering its final month and Roony Bardghji’s future unresolved.

The Sweden winger has attracted strong interest from several clubs, but Barcelona have yet to approve any of the numerous offers submitted for him, according to Sport.

That has left Bardghji’s proposed move at a standstill, despite the club’s intention to make a final push to resolve the situation once the squad returns from its training camp in England. Barcelona are expected to hold further discussions with the player’s representatives over the precise terms of his departure.

The club’s preferred solution is to sell Bardghji while retaining a future buy-back option. Bardghji, however, would rather leave on loan, with the aim of returning to Barcelona next season.

That difference in approach remains the main obstacle to an agreement. Barcelona are seeking a permanent arrangement that would preserve some control over the winger’s long-term future, while Bardghji wants an opportunity to continue his development elsewhere before attempting to re-establish himself at the club.

Barcelona informed Bardghji at the end of last season that he was free to select his next destination. The decision followed the club’s explanation that his opportunities to play a significant role in the new project would be limited.

The club’s transfer activity this summer has reinforced that message. Barcelona have added three players capable of operating in wide positions, signing Anthony Gordon, Karim Adeyemi and Bissou.

With those arrivals increasing competition on the wings, Bardghji’s route into the first-team plans appears to have become more difficult. However, his departure has not yet been sanctioned, even though several clubs are reportedly prepared to offer him a new destination.

Barcelona must therefore settle both the form of the move and the conditions attached to it in the coming weeks. Their priority is understood to be a sale with a buy-back clause, but the player’s preference for a temporary transfer means an agreement has not been reached.

The club hopes the return from England will provide the opportunity to give the issue fresh momentum. Discussions with Bardghji’s camp are expected to focus on finding a compromise that allows Barcelona to manage the size of their squad while giving the Sweden international a route back to the club.

Until then, the winger remains one of the most unusual cases on Barcelona’s list of players expected to leave. A number of possible destinations are available, but the final decision continues to rest on whether the club and player can agree on the structure of his exit.
