Omar Marmoush joins Manchester City camp ahead of new season

Egypt international Omar Marmoush has joined Manchester City’s pre-season camp in Hong Kong as the club prepares for the new campaign.

Marmoush made his first appearance with Manchester City after completing his involvement with Egypt at the 2026 World Cup. The forward took part in rehabilitation work in the gym but will not feature in the club’s friendly against Inter on Saturday.

The match will mark the beginning of a new era for Manchester City, with Italian manager Enzo Maresca taking charge after the departure of Pep Guardiola, who led the club for the past 10 years.

Manchester City will face Inter in their opening friendly of the tour before playing the stars of the South Korean league and then Atletico de Madrid. Marmoush is expected to continue his preparations with the squad after his initial fitness work in Hong Kong.

The 2026 World Cup had extended Marmoush’s season, with the Egypt international helping his country reach the last 16. Following the tournament, he celebrated his wedding before travelling to join Manchester City’s camp ahead of the new season.

His absence from the Inter fixture means his return to match action will come later in the club’s pre-season programme. Manchester City are using their schedule in Asia to prepare for their first competitive match under Maresca and to build fitness across the squad.

The club will begin the new season against Arsenal in the English Community Shield on 16 August. Manchester City will then open their Premier League campaign away to Bournemouth on 23 August.

Marmoush’s arrival in Hong Kong brings together the club’s returning World Cup players as Manchester City adjust to a change in the dugout. His rehabilitation sessions represent the first stage of his work with the team since Egypt’s progress at the tournament, while the rest of the squad begins the friendly programme against Inter.

Manchester City’s meetings with the stars of the South Korean league and Atletico de Madrid will provide further opportunities for preparation before the competitive fixtures begin. The Community Shield against Arsenal will be the first test of Maresca’s team, followed a week later by the Premier League opener against Bournemouth.

For Marmoush, the immediate focus is on regaining full fitness and integrating back into Manchester City’s preparations after an extended period away with Egypt and his subsequent wedding celebrations. His first appearance for the club since the World Cup will therefore come after the Inter match, with his return dependent on his rehabilitation programme.
