Orlando Pirates and Durban City meet after continental victories

Orlando Pirates host Durban City in the Betway Premiership on Thursday, 17 September 2026, with both sides arriving at Orlando Amstel Arena after securing progress in continental competition.

Pirates booked their place in the second preliminary round of the CAF Champions League by beating Mauritian side La Cure Waves 3-1 on Saturday afternoon.

Durban City followed with a 2-1 victory over Rukinzo in Burundi on Sunday, a result which took them into the second preliminary round of the CAF Confederation Cup.

The league meeting gives Pirates an opportunity to reduce the gap to leaders Mamelodi Sundowns. The Buccaneers are seven points behind Sundowns, although they have played three matches fewer.

Pirates also have the recent head-to-head advantage. They defeated City 2-1 in the first round of the MTN8 last month.

Both teams have now confirmed their starting line-ups for Thursday evening’s match.
