Zamalek appoint Ayman Taher as goalkeeping coach ahead of new season

Zamalek have agreed a deal with Ayman Taher to become the club’s goalkeeping coach, replacing Portuguese coach Vitor Pereira as part of Moataz Gamal’s backroom staff.

Taher is expected to join the squad on Saturday as Zamalek begin their preparations for the 2026-27 season at the New Administrative Capital.

A source at Zamalek told FilGoal.com: “Ayman Taher, the goalkeeping coach, has joined Zamalek’s coaching staff led by Moataz Gamal to replace the Portuguese Vitor Pereira.”

The source added: “Ayman Taher will be present at the team’s training camp, which starts today in the New Administrative Capital in preparation for the upcoming season.”

Taher is a familiar figure at Zamalek, having previously worked with the club’s first-team coaching staff on several occasions as a goalkeeping coach. His return comes after the club confirmed that Gamal would remain in charge as head coach.

Zamalek’s pre-season camp begins on Saturday afternoon, with the team starting its preparations under Gamal ahead of the new campaign. The appointment of Taher completes a change in the goalkeeping role following Pereira’s departure from the coaching staff.

The club has also accepted the resignation of sporting director John Edward, who has left his position. His departure is another change to Zamalek’s football operation during the summer, although the club has retained Gamal as manager.

Zamalek ended last season by winning the Egyptian Premier League title for a 15th time in their history. They also reached the final of the CAF Confederation Cup.

The new training camp at the New Administrative Capital will provide the starting point for the club’s preparations after that successful domestic campaign. Taher’s inclusion means he will begin work with the squad from the opening day of the camp, as Zamalek build towards the new season under Gamal.

The agreement with Taher was completed by Zamalek’s board, which finalised his appointment before the team’s preparations began. He will now take responsibility for the goalkeepers within a coaching staff that has Gamal at its head.

The club’s decision to bring back a coach who has already held the same role at Zamalek several times reflects his previous connection with the team. His immediate task will be to work with the goalkeepers during the camp as the squad prepares for the demands of the forthcoming season.

Zamalek’s latest league triumph was their 15th Egyptian Premier League title, while their run to the CAF Confederation Cup final gave the club further competition success last season. Those achievements form the backdrop to the start of a new campaign, with the team beginning its pre-season programme on Saturday.
