PSG ready to challenge Barcelona for Ferran Torres with five-year proposal

Paris Saint-Germain are preparing an ambitious move for Ferran Torres after telling the Barcelona forward they are willing to improve on any contract-renewal offer made by the Catalan club.

The French champions have turned their attention to Torres after losing out on the signing of Yan Diomande, with Real Madrid entering the negotiations at the last moment and disrupting Paris Saint-Germain’s plans.

According to Spanish newspaper Sport, Paris Saint-Germain believe they can persuade Torres to move to France and have already made clear that their financial proposal would be significantly stronger than Barcelona’s. The club are also prepared to offer the 25-year-old a five-year contract, giving him a substantial salary during what should be the prime years of his career.

The approach follows an intense week of transfer activity for Paris Saint-Germain. The club have reached preliminary agreements to sign attacking midfielders Mika Godts from Ajax and Maghnes Akliouche from Monaco, and are now assessing whether Torres can become their next major addition.

However, Paris Saint-Germain slowed their pursuit of the Barcelona player while they concentrated on completing their business in wide areas and, most importantly, resolving the futures of players expected to leave.

They have already sold striker Goncalo Ramos to Milan, while Randal Kolo Muani could join Juventus during the weekend. Once those departures have been dealt with, sporting adviser Luis Campos is expected to dedicate his attention to negotiating a deal for Torres.

Paris Saint-Germain believe the move is developing positively. Initial contact over Torres took place during the World Cup, when the club formed the impression that the Barcelona forward was at least willing to listen to their proposal. They also feel that the influence of manager Luis Enrique, alongside the strength of the club’s sporting and financial project, can help attract the player.

The two sides have discussed the possibility of a transfer and established that there is genuine interest. The next stage will be to settle the financial terms and establish the basis of an agreement.

Paris Saint-Germain do not intend to use the proposal simply as a negotiating tactic. Their plan is to put forward a contract lasting five years, with wages considerably higher than those Torres currently receives at Barcelona.

That offer would provide Torres with both an elevated income and long-term security through a signed agreement covering the most productive period of his playing career.

Barcelona, though, remain determined to keep the forward. The club are expected to put pressure on Torres to continue at Camp Nou, but there is concern that they may have waited too long to advance the renewal process.

Torres has reportedly been frustrated after seeing a number of his team-mates complete contract extensions while his own situation remained unresolved for an extended period.

His relationship with Barcelona remains strong, and his decision is likely to be influenced by the club’s plans in attack. Torres understands that his chances of receiving more playing time could improve significantly if Barcelona fail to sign Julian Alvarez this summer.

At the same time, he recognises that securing a regular place at Paris Saint-Germain would be extremely difficult because of the quality and depth already available in their forward line.

Should Paris Saint-Germain reach an agreement with Torres, the French club would then open formal negotiations with Barcelona. The two clubs would have to find common ground because Torres has only one year remaining on his current contract.
